National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Club Sponsor: Mrs. Wendy Doman
Email: wdoman@kirksville.k12.mo.us

NHS meets each month of the academic school year the 1st and 3rd Thursdays from 7:15 - 7:45 am.

Eligibility Requirements and Application Process:
Only students in grades 10–12 are eligible to be invited for membership.  Freshmen are not permitted to join NHS.
Chapter membership is based on the four pillars of NHS:
          1)  Scholarship: students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
          2)  Service: This involves voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation.
          3)  Leadership: Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors. Leadership
experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.
          4)  Character: The student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows
courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and maintains a clean disciplinary record.

Students who meet the scholarship requirement are eligible to complete the National Honor Society Candidate form detailing their accomplishments in and commitment to service, leadership, and character. They will be notified by letter July 6th if they are eligible to apply.

Candidate forms must be submitted to the KHS office staff no later than 3 pm, September 5th. Students will be notified by a letter in October telling them whether or not they have been accepted into the KHS chapter of NHS.
